USAID Agriculture Education and Market Improvement Program (AEMIP)

USAID/Guinea's Agriculture Education and Market Improvement Program (AEMIP) will strengthen the capacity of agriculture education in Guinea to respond to the growing needs of farms and agriculture enterprises in the face of shifting markets and climate change. Through this 
program, Winrock International and Purdue University will work in partnership with the Institut Superieur Agronomique Valéry Giscard d’Estaing de Faranah (ISAVF), as well as agriculture stakeholders and local and regional educational and environmental institutions, to strengthen sustainable agriculture and improve the adoption of proven technologies by Guinean farmers. By the end of the program, ISAVF will be a recognized leader in the region for training in climate-smart agriculture and for disseminating agricultural adaptive technology. AEMIP is an Associate Award under Winrock’s USAID-funded John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program Leader with Associates (LWA) cooperative agreement. AEMIP and F2F will leverage the skills and expertise of more than 40 short- and long-term 

Key Elements:

  • Public-private partnerships for AET resourcemobilization, private sector innovation grants, and market information.
  • Integration of experiential learning approaches — including a Service Learning Program and Innovation Grants — to reinforce linkages between faculty, students, and value chain actors.
  • Integration of nutrition education, gender main- streaming, and climate smart agriculture in AET.
  • Stimulation of value chain upgrades focused on access to proven technologies and strong vertical and horizontal linkages.
  • Community and market-level agriculture sector support and climate change activities.
  • Development of a strategy for Guinea to become eligible to participate in voluntary carbon markets.

Anticipated Outcomes:

  • ISAVF will emerge as a Center of Excellence that can attract and manage a sustainable funding base and lasting public-private partnerships to support highly skilled faculty and market-driven learning.
  • Strong linkages will be developed between ISAVF and technical schools throughout the country and West African region.
  • At least 2,000 students and faculty will improve their knowledge and skills to contribute to Guinea's agricultural development and adaptation to climate change.
  • At least 2,000 agriculture sector participants will improve food security and incomes.
