Invited by International Programs in Agriculture, as part of IPIA's Latin American and the Caribbean Initiative, the Rector, Dr. Luiz Claudio Costa, and the Director of International Programs, Professor L. C. Barbosa, of the Federal University of Vicosa, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil visited our campus on April 14th and 15th 2010.
Dr. Victor Lechtenberg, Vice Provost for Engagement salutes Dr. Luiz Claudio Costa and gives him a commemorative plaque in recognition of the 58 years of friendship between our institutions. IPIA started work in Vicosa in 1952 and contributed to building the first Land Grant type of university in Latin America, one that today ranks among the best, and most influential in policy making, in the region.
IPIA organized with the Women's Resource Office and the Butler Center for Leadership Excellence a Tribute to a member of the Purdue University-Federal University of Vicosa Project. This was the first major international engagement for our university, the College of Agriculture and IPIA. It is considered a pivotal experience in university to university international collaboration.
As a member of the IPIA team, Professor Foster started the program of Home Economics in three states in Brazil: Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.
