The international extension travel programs are organized and led by on-campus Extension specialists and targeted at Indiana residents and professionals. The purpose of these programs is to provide a hands-on learning experience while incorporating the value of an international opportunity.

 

South America for Wine Professionals - The International Wine Industries of Chile and Argentina 

The Purdue Wine Grape Team, the Midwest's leading experts on grape and wine production, will take wine industry professionals on an international Extension adventure to Chile and Argentina, and an opportunity to explore and experience global viticulture and enology during harvest time in the Southern hemisphere.  The Team will lead the travels to several of the key wine production regions of Chile, including the Maipo, Casabanca, and Aconcagua Valleys.  Stops include visits to several of Chile's top wineries and vineyards  (Viña Veramonte, Viñedos Orgánicos Emiliana, Viña Errázuriz), encompassing conventional, organic, and biodynamic farming operations.   The travelers have an opportunity to explore the magnificent scenery of Chile, from its Pacific Coast beaches to the Andes Mountains.  A day trip across  the 22,841 ft high Andes takes the Team to Mendoza, Argentina, to explore in the other center of the South American wine industry with visits to premier wine producers (Finca Decero, Catena Zapata, and Familia Zuccardi).  The group will stay in the old city of Mendoza, with its beautiful plazas and tree-lined streets, and plenty of opportunity to experience the vibrant culture and art of Argentina.

Gardens of England

Our goal is to expand Master Gardener's knowledge in ornamental horticulture, landscape, and garden design in a historical context. The program of study focuses on gardens of historical and modern significance near London, in The West Country, and East Anglia. Lectures, a study booklet, pre-/post-tests and course evaluation are included. Participants usually share what they learn with others in their community upon their return. We'll visit and study such notable gardens as Hampton Court Palace, Stourhead, Hidcote Manor, Hestercombe, Iford Manor, Westbury Court, Knole House, Sissinghurst Castle, the Beth Chatto Garden, Bloom's of Bressingham, and the Royal Horticulture Society gardens at Wisley. Free time in London and a visit to Stonehenge will round out our experiences. Priority enrollment is available to Purdue MGs, but MGs from other states are welcomed on a space-available basis.
