Limitations

AgIT will only create and publish documents for policies, procedures, applications, and technologies that are specific to the support scope of our department. Unsupported products and applications will not be included in AgIT documentation.

User Responsibilities

Users are responsible for locating, understanding and utilizing documents for unsupported products accordinging to the means provided by that product's distributor or manufacturer.

Eligibility

All AgIT supported users, offices, and units are eligible to access docmentation (according to permissions), or make requests for the creation or modification of documents.

Standard features of this service are:

  • Sends and receives e-mail messages, both internally and via the internet.
  • Provides an easily accesible Purdue Global address book of e-mail addresses.
  • Allows for up to 1GB of mailbox storage space by default.
  • Sends and receives file attachments (up to 30MB).
  • Provides the ability to create "distribution groups."
  • Provides access to mailbox via and internet web browser (Outlook Web Access).
  • Allows for sharing of messages.
  • Provides e-mail virus and spam protection.

Storage quota increase (See below for fees).
Limitations

Limitations of this service are:

  • E-mail attachments are limited to a maximum size of 30MB.
  • AgIT will perform admistrative tasks related to mailbox access, such as installing software that has been approved. AgIT will not configure or support the installed software.
  • Service is managed by ITaP. Features and limitations are subject to any changes implemented at the ITaP level.
User Responsibilities
The user is responsible for the security of any device or software accessing the mailbox, apart from the desktop and web clients provided by AgIT on our computers (Outlook).
Eligibility

This service is available to all AgIT-supported users who are employed full or part time.

Service Initiation
This service can be requested as a part of a new user setup for a new employee.  Additionally, any support issues regarding email can be initiated by contacting AgIT Support Services.

Standard Service Features
Storage limits are provided to users for storage of work files, as well as backup copies of saved files. These limits are based on resources available for file and backup storage.
  • Campus - no limit
  • County/Farms -  limit based on number of staffs members accessing the server.

No optional features at this time.
Limitations
Network space is limited. Users should only store work-related files.  Users are requested to not store personal pictures and music files on the network server. 
User Responsibilities
Review stored files to ensure relevance and timeliness.  Users are requested to archive non-relevant files to other media (e.g., DVD, flashdrive) and then delete these files from the network server. 
Eligibility
This service is available to all AgIT-supported users who are employed full or part time. Volunteers are not eligible for this service. Special exception will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

This service is automatically initiated as a part of the new user account setup process for staff/faculty. If network storage was not set up at that time, please contact the support group below.

Limitations

Limitations of this service are:

  • No enabled history or user accessible log of activity is kept for chat sessions (includes text, audio, and video).
  • AgIT considers this provided instant messaging client (Microsoft Lync) to be the only means of instant messaging communication for our users. Other instant messaging clients will not be installed or supported on AgIT computers. Special exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis ONLY when the user can clearly demonstrate that the provided client cannot meet their business need.

Standard Service Features
Users have the ability to print from office networked computers to network printers.  Also provides the ability to print from a different office networked computer to the printer.
Optional Service Features
Duplexing, scanning , copying, etc., may be possible depending upon printer.
Limitations
  • Computer must be networked and supported by AgIT.
  • AgIT will configure a standard server print queue for network printing to compatible devices.
  • Scanning to a network share (e.g., home directory) is not supported.
  • Faxing using the IP networking is not supported.  Note: faxing via an analog source is available.
User Responsibilities
  • Contact AgIT prior to purchasing a printer to ensure that the item is compatible with the current environment (e.g., Windows, Server version drivers.) 
  • Contact AgIT for a printer installation appointment when received.

AgIT can provide instructions or assist with device configuration to Purdue's and/or College of Agriculture's IT services available for mobile devices.  Currently, these services include:

Limitations
  • AgIT is only responsible for assisting with downloading and installing software for the support of personal devices.
  • All device configuration and desktop software configuration is not supported by AgIT.
  • Note: As of January 1, 2013, the Purdue Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) is being decommissioned. Devices are no longer being added to the service. Any mobile device must now be able to sync to Exchange without an extra, external server (i.e. iPhone, Android, Windows Phone).
User Responsibilities
  • Users are responsible for their personal wireless devices; users must be present during consultation.
  • Users are responsible for configuration of all desktop software that is related to their personal wireless devices.
  • Users are responsible for downloading any necessary software needed to connect to IT services.

Note:Customers must understand that if local IT staff are unable to make a connection after reasonable attempts, customers may be referred to other areas, or to the vendor or manufacturer, for additional assistance.

​Print Managment for the College of Agriculture uses PaperCut software located on college's central print server.  This service can provide:

  • Remote access to campus drives and resources.
  • The same level of access that you would have if you were physically in your office.
Optional Service Features
  • While VPN is user-configurable, Support Services can assist in setting up the VPN connection on standard, AgIT-supported computers.
Limitations
  • AgIT provides self-help instructions for installing the VPN client and mapping network drives on personal computers on the AgIT website. However, Support Services cannot configure these computers for the user.
  • VPN is dependant on an active, reliable connection to the internet.
  • Some networks block VPN traffic. VPN can only function if the user's computer is connected to a network that allows VPN traffic.
User Responsibilities
  • Users must follow the directions provided on the AgIT website for setting up VPN on personally owned  computers.
  • Users must follow the directions provided on the AgIT website for accessing remote resources on any computer.

Standard Service Features
Account types:
  • Purdue Career Account: AgIT's standard account type. Used for all full-time and part-time Purdue and county employees. Grants log in access to machines in the user's department or county. Grants ability to use network storage (X or P drive) and network printers. Grants county users "Read" access to their county's Extension Database. Enables the ability for E-Mail and Live Communications (Communicator) services to be configured for the user.
  • Guest Account: Alternate account type with limited access that is used for temporary and short-term users in a department or county. Grants log in access to machines in the user's department or county. Allows user to utilize local machine resources only. Allows the user internet access.
User types:
  • Purdue and County Employees: These are standard, full-time employees. These users should always be set up with Purdue Career Accounts.
  • Core Volunteers (long-term, recurring): These are non-employee users that will be working in the office long-term (longer than 90 days) or on a recurring basis. These users should receive Purdue Career Accounts, as it is more work for all parties to re-create a guest account each time access is needed.
  • Guests (short-term volunteers, presenters, etc.): These are non-employee users that have short-term or one-time access needs. These users should always be set up with Guest Accounts.
  • Summer Assistants (county): These are seasonal, non-employee users. Due to the varying nature of this type of user, it us up to the county to decide which type of account best suits the user. Summer Assistants can be set up with either a Purdue Career Account or a Guest Account.

User Responsibilities
Purdue Career Account: A Request for Privelages (RFP) must be submitted two weeks in advance of the new user's start date. This is done with the business office for campus users, or with District Secretaries for county users.
 
Guest Accounts: Creation of this type of account must be requested via the AgIT Support Center at least one full business day in advance of the user's start date.
Eligibility

Purdue Career Account: All full-time and part-time Purdue and county employees, Core Volunteers, and Summer Assistants (as deemed necessary by the county).

Guest Account: All campus and county guests (Presenters, short-term volunteers, visiting scholars, etc.)

ITaP Data Centers MATH B60 which is a Academic Data Center and FREH Data Center. AgIT has equipment located in both of these Data Centers along with a few pieces of equipment in HAAS to provide failover and backup.
