Horticulture and landscape architecture professor honored by Crop Science Society of America

The Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) has announced that Purdue professor Aaron Patton is its 2022 Fellow Award Recipient. The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to crop science through education, national and international service and research.

Patton is a professor in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture (HLA) and a turfgrass Extension specialist. Patton develops and delivers educational material for the turf grass industry throughout the Midwest.

Patton also serves as executive director of the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation (MRTF), which he runs in conjunction with his colleague and HLA professor Cale Bigelow. Together, they oversee MRTF and fulfill its mission to support turf grass research and education through a variety of outlets at Purdue.

Patton also was awarded a fellowship by the American Society of Agronomy (ASA) in 2021. Fellow is the highest honor conferred by the ASA and recognized Patton’s contributions in agronomy through Extension and research.

Purdue HLA department head and professor Linda Prokopy praised Patton’s contributions to the field of crop science.

“I am not surprised to see this recognition of Dr. Patton’s scholarship – he is an exemplary faculty member whose work shines across all of our mission areas, research, Extension and teaching. He is widely recognized as one of the best turfgrass scientists in the world.”
