Nate Bowser | Sophomore | Syracuse, IN | Plant Genetics, Breeding, & Biotechnology

Nate Bowser is a sophomore studying Plant Genetics, Breeding, and Biotechnology. Nate was introduced to agriculture through FFA in high school, where he won two state titles and a national title in soils judging. He also travelled to the United Kingdom to represent the United States in the Royal Highland Livestock Judging Contest after his team placed third at National FFA Convention. Nate discovered a passion for food security when he competed in the World Food Prize Youth Institute. He qualified to represent Indiana at Global Youth Institute after his junior year, and was later named a Borlaug-Ruan International Intern. As a Borlaug-Ruan Intern, Nate spent 3 months in Brazil at Embrapa Soja, Brazil’s national soybean research organization. While at Purdue, Nate has interned at the Purdue Center for Global Food Security and is currently working on his own research project with Dr. Mitch Tuinstra. After graduation, Nate hopes to go to graduate school to later conduct research that impacts global food security. Bailee Cook | Junior | Walkerton, IN | Agribusiness Management

Bailee Cook  is a Junior pursuing a major in Agribusiness Management with a dual minor in Crop Science and Communication. Bailee comes from small-town Walkerton, Indiana, where she grew up participating in 4-H among other extracurricular activities such as Student Council and National Honors Society. Bailee grew up showing goats, cattle, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. Bailee found her true passion in agriculture while holding numerous leadership positions in FFA. During her time here at Purdue University, Bailee has been involved in Dairy Club, Agribusiness Club, and Block & Bridle as well as completing a Maymester studying abroad in Jamaica.  After Bailee receives her degree, she hopes to pursue a career working in management in the agriculture industry. She has as passion to help others and loves to work internationally. Bailee joined Purdue Agricultural Council because of this passion to help others and desire to unify the College of Agriculture. Bailee is excited to serve as your Agricultural Council Vice President this year and to continue helping the College of Agriculture to feel like home to all of its students! (cook175@purdue.edu)


Kendell Combs | Junior | Modoc, IN | Agribusiness Management & Agricultural Communication

Kendell Combs is a junior studying Agribusiness Management and Agricultural Communication. She didn’t grow up in a traditional agriculture family or setting. While in high school, Kendell was introduced to FFA and that was where her passion for the agriculture industry. After visiting many colleges, Purdue felt like home to her. She received a bid to live in Ann Tweedale Cooperative during her senior year of high school, and that has led her to many lifelong friendships. Since being at Purdue, Kendell has been involved with Rising Professionals Host, Ann Tweedale’s Executive Board, Purdue Cooperative Council, and Ag Envoys. She also currently works in the College of Agriculture Office of Academic Programs, supporting Secretary for the Purdue Agricultural Council, Kendell is able to use what she has learned at Purdue and better inform and unite the departments and clubs within the College of individuals such as Dr. Fernandez. Upon graduating in December 2019, Kendell hopes to pursue a career in communications for an agribusiness or a position with seed and crop protection. (combs30@purdue.edu)


Douglas Abney | Sophomore | Bargersville, IN | Agricultural Economics

Douglas Abney is a sophomore studying Agricultural Economics with a concentration in Quantitative Analysis. He grew up on a beef cattle farm that raises Belted Galloway cattle. Douglas grew his interest in agriculture when he started showing cattle in the first grade. From there he has competed at several stock shows across the midwest including World Beef Expo, NAILE, and the Indiana State Fair. In high school, Douglas was heavily involved in his FFA chapter where he competed in soils judging, numerous Leadership Development Contests, and wildlife judging. While in the Franklin FFA chapter, he served as Chapter President, District VIII President, as well as the Chairman for the Indiana FFA State Officer Nominating Committee in 2017. Douglas was also a 10 year 4-H member in Johnson County were he competed with sheep and cattle. While at Purdue, Douglas is involved in FarmHouse Fraternity and is currently the Marketing Chair. Upon graduating in May 2021, he hopes to obtain a career with an agriculture lending firm and analyze credit and loans. As treasurer of Purdue Agricultural Council, Douglas is proud to help fund option clubs and financially fuel events like Moonlight Pancake Breakfast. (abneyd@purdue.edu)

Janelle Mitzner | Sophomore | Wanatah, IN | Agricultural Sales and Marketing

Janelle Mitzner is a sophomore studying Animal Sciences with a concentration in Animal Agribusiness and Sales and Marketing. She grew up on her family’s grain operation in Wanatah, Indiana where they primarily grow soybeans, corn, and commercial crops. Five years into her 4-H career, her and her brother began raising show cattle. Janelle does all the marketing for the three divisions of her family farm: Mitzner Farms, Mitzner Meats, and Mitzner Show Cattle. Janelle was a 10 year 4-H member in LaPorte County. At Purdue University, Janelle is involved in Sigma Alpha Sorority and studied abroad in Italy in summer 2018. Upon graduation in May of 2021, she hopes to pursue a career in animal health and pharmaceuticals or marketing for an agricultural based company. Through the leadership experiences to the friends and professionals she has met along the way, Janelle is proud to give back and serve the College of Agriculture in her position as the Public Relations chair for the council.  (jmitzne@purdue.edu)
