Landscape Horticulture first appeared as an option in the Department of Horticulture in the 1964-65 School of Agriculture catalog and was changed to Landscape Architecture in the 1967-68 catalog.

The Purdue Landscape Architecture program was nationally accredited in 1976. Until 1982-83, all Landscape Architecture graduates received the Bachelor of Science degree. On several occasions, accreditation reviews recommended the degree title to include “Landscape Architecture.” That was adopted in 1982.

Twenty-three individuals received the first Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture degrees awarded in May 1983. Nine hundred and thirty nine B.S.L.A. degrees have been awarded.
