Driving Soil Health Education (A 2000s Alum Story)
Nobody understands a farmer’s needs like a farmer. That’s what makes Ben Wicker a superb leader for the Indiana Agriculture Nutrient Alliance.
As IANA’s executive director, Wicker drives education on nutrient management and soil health strategies for farmers. He applies these strategies on his family’s farm in Milroy, Indiana, where his passion for agriculture began.
Wicker earned a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and crop science from Purdue in 2006, and then served farmers as an agronomist, crop insurance agent, NRCS technical service provider and director of producer outreach for the Indiana Pork Producers Association.
In just over 10 years, Wicker has stepped to the forefront of Indiana agriculture.
“There’s already so much good work happening in Indiana around nutrient management and soil health,” he said. “I want to further develop the partnerships and the collaboration between them in order to extend the reach of their efforts in working with Indiana’s farmers.”
