Three significant changes to the College of Agriculture core curriculum were considered by 54 faculty members at the December 5, 2012, Agricultural Faculty meeting. In each case, faculty members reacted to required curricular modifications generated from outside rather than developing and proposing changes from within the faculty.

  • The Indiana General Assembly mandated that all baccalaureate degree programs in the state be limited to 120 credits unless the Indiana Commission for Higher Education granted exemptions. This resulted in a 10-credit reduction from the 130 credits required for the Bachelor of Science degree since the early 1970s. Exemptions were requested for Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering, Biological Engineering, Forestry, and Landscape Architecture to meet licensing and accreditation requirements.
  • The Indiana General Assembly mandated a Statewide General Education core. College of Agriculture curricula were adjusted to fulfill this directive.
  • A University Core Curriculum was adopted to fulfill legislative mandates and to establish a general education curriculum for all baccalaureate degree programs. College of Agriculture curricula were adjusted to fulfill University Core Curriculum stipulations.
