At University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Nelson was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, URSCA fellow, and Alpha Tau Alpha (a professional, honorary society for agricultural educators) national president.
At Purdue, she has served as the department graduate student representative, is an active participant at the Mentoring@Purdue (M@P) program, and is currently a graduate research assistant on a USDA-NIFA PDAL grant titled “INdustry-driVen Integrated STEM and Systems Approach to Innovative IncubatiON (IN-VISION).”
