Faculty Profile
Dr. Peters has approximately 40 years of experiences in teaching and learning at both the secondary and postsecondary levels of education. He has conducted research and development both domestically and internationally. He has served as a department head and interim dean for the College of Education and currently holds a joint appointment with the College of Education and College of Agriculture as a professor of Agricultural Education in the Department of Youth Development and Agricultural Education. He has served as a consultant for the National FFA Organization (formerly known as the Future Farmers of America) and traveled with this organization to Belgium, France, Germany, and Costa Rica. He has conducted workshops on leadership, teaching, curriculum development, and program development in Nigeria, Tunisia, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Guinea. He has also led Study Abroad courses for agriculture teachers to Honduras, and Costa Rica as well as a Study Abroad to Jamaica for undergraduate students. From May 1, 2008 to March 31, 2010, Peters worked in a collaborative partnership agreement between Purdue University and the already existing system: Mercy Corps, PIN (People in Need), and HASIL (Helmand Agricultural Solutions for Improved Livelihoods) to lay the foundation for the development of curriculum, teacher training, and application of experiential activities for the Agricultural Vocational High Schools of Afghanistan and more specifically the Helmand Agricultural Solutions for Improved Livelihoods (HASIL) project.

Research Interests
Professor Peters' research is directly linked to his teaching and his belief in creating an effective atmosphere for learning. His interest is in teacher effectiveness through the development of teaching strategies/methods that can be used both in teacher preparation and in the classroom by teachers. Specifically, his research has focused on reflective teaching in secondary teacher preparation programs and S.A.I., Student Assisted Instruction, a teaching strategy for secondary high school teachers. Peters continually receives requests from his peers in agricultural teacher education for his work on reflective teaching. His materials continue to help new professors in the field. Dr. Peters has conducted research studies using experimental research designs and survey research designs.
