Research Interests
Ryan’s research interests highlight his passion for interdisciplinarity, which he sees as the necessary approach to addressing societal challenges. Some of his specific interests include: food science and food systems education, learner-centered teaching, and community and youth development. His research focuses on exploring upper elementary and middle school students’ interests and concerns regarding the food system.
He has a passion for curating engaging, learner-centered experiences through STEM to get underrepresented students excited about agriculture. Through his research, he has developed a hands-on Agri+STEM curriculum that focuses on teaching students about the food system through food science and that connects learners to relevant content through cultural and community connections.
