Q: What is being welded in the lab?

A: Clare McNicholas, a junior in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, is modifying a vehicle as part of the Purdue Utility Project (PUP) team. Adding a CVT (continuously variable transmission) allows the vehicle’s engine to operate more efficiently at a wider range of speeds. PUP utility vehicles are specially designed for manufacturing in developing countries so farmers can transport large loads over rough terrain.
