The Research Services team provides advisory and consultative services to researchers, fosters effective collaborations, and guides the development of comprehensive data management plans.

Data Acquisition and Collection

The team collaborates with researchers to implement best practices, offer training on data stewardship, and build a centralized data catalog to facilitate discovery and reuse.

• Collaborate with researchers to implement best practices in data acquisition, ensuring accurate data collection with sufficient metadata
• Offer training and education to researchers and their teams on data stewardship best practices, such as data organization, documentation, and quality assurance
• Work with researchers to develop and implement quality assurance protocols to monitor data quality during the collection process
• Catalog and profile datasets, building a comprehensive data catalog to facilitate discovery and reuse

Data Stewardship

The team performs advanced data quality control, conducts in-depth profiling, curates and maintains datasets, and provides hands-on training on data stewardship best practices.

• Perform data quality control and validation, identifying and remediating issues
• Conduct in-depth data profiling to understand dataset characteristics and structure
• Curate and maintain datasets and databases, ensuring long-term preservation and accessibility
• Triage and remedy datasets, addressing problems and enhancing overall quality and usability
• Provide hands-on training and educational resources on data stewardship best practices

Data Analysis and Visualization

Data Analysis and Visualization: The team integrates and harmonizes datasets, delivers exploratory and advanced analytics, develops custom visualizations, and offers training on the latest data analysis methods and tools.

• Integrate and harmonize disparate datasets to enable comprehensive analysis
• Provide descriptive statistics and exploratory data analysis to help researchers better understand their data
• Collaborate with researchers on more advanced statistical analyses, including diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive models
• Develop custom data visualizations to support research presentations, publications, and decision-making
• Offer hands-on training and education on data analysis techniques and tools

Research Dissemination

The team creates high-impact data visualizations, develops compelling “data stories”, assists with manuscript authoring, provides training on data deposition requirements, and deposits datasets in repositories on behalf of researchers.

• Create high-impact data visualizations suitable for inclusion in research presentations, publications, and other dissemination channels
• Develop compelling “data stories” that highlight the significance and impact of research findings, facilitating effective communication and knowledge transfer
• Assist with the authoring of specific manuscript sections, such as data and methods descriptions, to ensure accurate and complete reporting of research findings
• Provide comprehensive training and education to researchers on funding agencies’ data and metadata management requirements, including formatting and depositing datasets in appropriate public repositories
• Triage and remediate datasets to ensure they meet the necessary standards and specifications for successful data deposition and sharing, streamlining the process for researchers
• Deposit datasets in relevant data repositories on behalf of researchers, ensuring proper documentation, metadata, and accessibility for broader use and impact

Principal Investigators

Everything included in research project services plus:

• Dedicated lead from the Research Services team who conducts regular meetings with the lab group
• Access to the entire Research Services team for support, advice, and implementation
• Advise the principal investigator on data-related aspects of the research program
• Provide individual meetings and small data-focused projects as needed
• Collaborate on the implementation of data stewardship best practices, including training and education
• Develop data stories, data catalogs, and preliminary data analysis to support the lab’s work

Research Center and Department Leadership

Everything included in research project services plus:

• Dedicated Research Services team member as part of the research center or department leadership team
• Provide advisory and consultative services to center/department leadership on data-related strategic decisions
• Attend regular meetings and engage with individuals to stay informed and advise proactively
• Assist with reporting necessary for leadership to make data-informed decisions and meet funding requirements
• Implement data stewardship best practices, including training and education, data catalogs, and preliminary data analysis
• Develop data stories to highlight the significance and impact of the center/department’s research
