Feed the Future Innovation Lab

for Food Processing and Post-Harvest Handling

Enhancing food and nutrition security and market values in Africa

High post-harvest losses cause hunger, malnutrition and poverty to persist in many developing African nations.

Powered by researchers at Purdue University and its partners, the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Processing and Post-harvest Handling aims to reduce post-harvest loss, promote economic growth, improve nutrition, and enhance food security in Feed the Future target countries.

Our work aims to:

  • Improve on-farm drying and storage in humid African tropics
  • Pursue public-private partnerships to scale beneficial technologies
  • Use processing approaches to increase commercialization of nutritionally enhanced food products
  • Strengthen human and institutional capacities along the post-harvest value chain, with gender-sensitive approaches
