Gabriela Morello MS

Gabriela holds a BS in Agricultural Engineering from UNICAMP, Brazil, and an MS from the University of Kentucky. With a strong interest in farm animal behavior and welfare, her PhD project utilizes her engineering background and is examining how micro-environmental factors influence the behavior of the farrowing sow and subsequent piglet mortality.

Matthew Horsman MS

Matt holds a BS from the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign and an MS from the University of Western Kentucky. He was responsible for the running of the Animal Compassion Foundation and National Pork Board–funded projects on sow aggression. He also inputted into many other USDA-ARS LBRU projects when required. He now an Extension Agent with the University of Tennessee, serving Williamson County.

Lyndsey Jones MS

Lyndsey holds a BS in Animal Science from Purdue University and has returned to school after a couple of years in industry. She completed her MS in 2010 on aspects of gestation sow housing and in particular, whether sows prefer free-access stalls, into which the sow can lock herself or release herself to access a lying area, or locked stalls from which she cannot leave. She is now a Livestock Humane Handling Manager with JBS/Swift, based in Louisville, KY.

Shelly Pfeffer DeBoer MS

Shelly holds a BS in Animal Science from Purdue University. Having carried out research in the lab as an undergraduate, she joined after graduation and worked on the PigTurn project, carrying out studies examining the effects of environmental enrichment on behavior, physiology and health. She completed her MS in 2012, and after a short stay working as a research technician in the lab on the tear-staining project, she entered the DVM class of 2016 at Purdue.

Stephanie Wisdom MS

Stephanie holds a BS in Animal Science and Psychology from the University of Missouri – Columbia, where she also worked as a research technician following graduation. She had intern experience with The Maschhoffs Inc. and completed her MS in 2012, studying nutritional aspects affecting gastric ulcers and sow longevity. She is now Director of Post-Weaning Operations at Illini Farms based in Kingston, IL.

Rosangela Poletto PhD

Rosangela holds a DVM from University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, an MS from Michigan State University and she completed her PhD in June 2009, which examined relationships between neurotransmitters and aggression in finishing pigs. She then worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate with us investigating the use of heart rate variability as a welfare assessment tool in pigs. She is now back in Brazil as a Professor at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul.

Bill DeBoer MS

Bill holds BS and MS degrees in Aquaculture from Purdue University. He worked as a temporary technician responsible for the running of the Animal Compassion Foundation and National Pork Board–funded projects on sow aggression. He is now a Lab Scientist with Syndicate Sales, Inc., Kokomo, IN.

Laura Hasenour BS

Laura holds a BS in Animal Science from Purdue University. She was responsible for running the National Pork Board-funded project which examined the welfare effects of alternative piglet processing methods. She moved to southern Indiana as an animal technician for BioAnalytical Systems Inc.

Lauren Brueggemann BS

Lauren arrived from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with a BS in Biology. She worked as a research technician focusing on data analysis from the piglet processing project but also inputting on many other USDA-ARS LBRU projects. She returned to Wisconsin to work with Sigma-Aldrich.
