E-Learning Environment
Advances in technology have allowed Purdue University to expand educational outreach. Courses offered through Purdue’s Agronomy e-Learning Academy are designed to meet the educational needs of professionals in all areas of agriculture.
Because the pre-recorded content is hosted on Purdue's Brightspace site and is accessible 24/7, busy professionals can plan their study time according to their schedules. All of our courses were designed specifically to meet the needs of off-campus learners.

Agronomy e-Learning FAQ
No prior agronomy classes or experience are required. The program is specifically designed to be understandable for learners at all levels, but best suited for those new to the field. Courses start with core agronomic principles and progress to applied topics such as soil health, nutrient management and crop production.
All courses are delivered 100% online. There are no in-person sessions or live online meetings required.
Agronomy Essentials and Nutrient Management modules feature mostly prerecorded video lessons. Digital Agriculture uses more interactive online content with supplemental videos. These are accompanied by readings, graphics, downloadable slides, glossaries and other helpful resources to support your learning.

No. The Agronomy E-Learning Academy provides scores on quizzes back to the learner but does not issue grades. Quizzes or knowledge checks are designed to reinforce your learning and help you track your understanding of the material.
No. The Agronomy E-Learning Academy is a noncredit program. It does not award academic credit or apply toward a degree, but it is a valuable professional development option for expanding your agronomy knowledge and skills. In some special situations, students have received academic credit for these courses issued by other institutions.
Most participants spend 3-5 hours per week completing readings, working through online content, watching instructional videos, and engaging in activities. Because the program is self-paced, the exact time can vary depending on your schedule, learning style and interest in the module topics. For example, if a student is particularly invested in a topic and wants to dive deeper into supplemental materials, they may spend a little longer on that week’s content. Conversely, some weeks might take less time if the material is familiar. The program is designed to be flexible so you can balance it with your professional or personal commitments while still making meaningful progress.
We use Brightspace as our learning platform. Brightspace is designed to work well even on slower internet connections. Most course materials, such as readings and activities, use minimal data. Videos can be played at lower resolutions to lower bandwidth and your progress is automatically saved, so you can pick up right where you left off if your connection drops.
