Animal Caretaker Job Description

The Purdue Poultry Research and Education Center is seeking qualified students to fill a part-time position. Our goal is to provide quality research while offering educational opportunities to students who have a sincere interest in poultry production agriculture. Applicants should be dependable, conscientious, and self-motivated with a desire to learn and take on responsibility. Good communication skills are a must. Previous poultry/farm equipment experience is preferred, but not required. Applicants should expect to work 2 weekends per month, and some holidays.

Daily Job Tasks include:

Feeding, checking birds, flock health, removing dead birds, animal handling, gathering eggs, setting eggs, taking hatch off, wing banding and vaccinating chicks, cleaning rooms and equipment/facility maintenance. Employee will work closely with researchers, other research unit farm personnel, supervisors, and fellow employees to provide a team atmosphere conducive to quality research and education.
