CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
Crane Naval Support Activity, Indiana
Tuesday, December 21, 2010
Each year since 1970, we have conducted a Christmas Bird Count at Crane Naval Support Activity, a 100 square mile, limited-access military area south of Bloomington. The unique character of this area (mostly forested with a large lake, several other impoundments, and some maintained openings,) coupled with limited public access, makes birding there an interesting activity.
We will be conducting the count this year on Tuesday, 21 December 2010 and would welcome the participation of all interested individuals. Transportation from West Lafayette will be provided; we will be leaving at about 5:00 AM from Purdue’s Forestry Building and returning by about 10:00 PM. There is a cafeteria on base where we break for lunch, taking the opportunity to compare morning notes among groups and plot the afternoon strategy. You are welcome to take your own lunch if you desire.>
If you would be interested in going along – please contact me, Harmon Weeks, by phone at 572-1175 (home), or 494-3567(school), or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) as soon as possible since names must be submitted in advance for security clearance.
Be reminded that National Audubon Society requires a $5.00 fee from each participant to offset the cost of publishing results. Thanks!
