Biography

Nileshwari Raju Yewle is working as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant at Purdue University. She earned her Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, with a minor in Grain Storage Engineering, through the Indo-U.S. PhD program at Visva-Bharati Central University, West Bengal, India, and Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA. Additionally, she holds an M. Tech in Agricultural Structures and Environmental Management from Dr. PDKV, Akola, India.

Her research primarily revolves around the impact of climate on food security, strategies for postharvest management, and the mitigation of aflatoxin contamination during storage, with a focus on grain modeling. Before joining our lab Nileshwari was a visiting scholar in the Telenko Lab. Since February 2023, she had been working on a crop protection program focusing on maize and soybean crops. During the past year, she assisted in fieldwork and collected plant disease research data in Indiana state. Past endeavors include expertise in analyzing hyperspectral images for the early detection of soybean plant diseases. She has also contributed to the development of novel vegetation indices for early detection and classification of soybean diseases in the Botany and Plant Pathology department at Purdue University.

Currently her research expanded to water quality, specifically working on the identification and prediction of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Midwestern U.S. waterways. She uses satellite remote sensing technologies to assess the biogeochemical state of inland waters and develop algorithms to forecast HABs. Driven by a passion for solving global challenges, she is making a meaningful impact in both agricultural and environmental sectors through her research.
