Natural Resources and Environmental Science Program

NRES is a flexible Interdisciplinary program that allows students, working closely with an academic advisor, to develop a personal curriculum that meets their career goals. The NRES program prepares students for careers in business, industry or government which focuses on the prevention, control, correction or regulation of environmental problems.

    Pre-Environmental Studies:

    Pre-Environmental Studies at Purdue University is the first program of its kind in the country. It is a program that allows freshmen to take their first year at Purdue to explore the 16 academic majors that focus on the environment.

    Whether pursuing current interests or exploring new ones, students make friends and establish their on-campus community by getting involved.

    The Environmental Science Club (ESC) is a science based option club for the Natural Resources and Environmental Science Program (NRES) at Purdue University. ESC is mostly comprised of NRES students, but other disciplines are welcomed with open arms. ESC emphasizes environmental education and sustainable management of our natural resources. We stand firm on the motto: OUR ENVIRONMENT...OUR CONCERN...OUR FUTURE.

    The cost varies depending on factors such as where a student chooses to live, travel expenses, food costs, enrollment in a specific program, etc.

    Ryan Schroeder NRES

    Ryan’s goal was to attend one of the U.S. military academies and spend his career as an officer. But failure to meet the vision requirement forced him to re-evaluate his career options. Instead, Ryan focused on a high school environmental science course he was taking and the years he and his father spent managing part of the family farm for wildlife. “One door closed and others opened,” he says. “Coming to Purdue was the best decision I ever made.”

    Sofia Vela NRES

    Sophia attended the Chicago High School for the Agricultural Sciences, a public school where all the electives are agriculture-related. It might be a little unexpected to find such a school in a metropolis like Chicago, but for Sophia it opened doors to an entire new world of possibilities.
