A Juniors thoughts on Purdue Agronomy

Summary

In Agronomy you will meet lots of wonderful and wise people. You will meet Dr. Gerber in AGRY 105, Shams Rahmanni and Sherry in AGRY 255, and if you're lucky, you'll get to see Dr. Gerber and Dr. Bradford in Crops and Soils Judging. There are lots of great classes to choose from, and Jane will always help you find the right ones for your interest. You'll start out building a good foundation and building your knowledge of Agronomy your freshman year. You really want to pay attention here because the professors aren't kidding when they say you'll see this stuff again. Another thing that is very important your freshman year is to connect with upper classman and the other people in your major. Upper classman will give you great advice on classes and internship, and they know the tricks of the trade. In your sophomore year you will have a good idea of how everything works and will see the end of gen ed classes in sight. You can come back to campus knowing where everything is and spend time reconnecting with old friends rather than worrying about the big change into college life. In your Junior year the real fun begins. You're done with gen eds and can start taking the classes you are truly interested in, and you'll know which ones to avoid. You will know the people in your major and will see familiar faces in most if not all of your classes. College is a very fun time, and you will make some of the best friends you have ever had. That leads to my number one piece of advice which is get involved. College is so much more than going to class then going back to your dorm or apartment and studying all night. Purdue offers clubs for any area of interest. It may not be natural at first if you're an introvert from a small town and aren't used to people, I most definitely was, but it is absolutely worth a little nervousness at the beginning to discover the whole other side of college life.
