Career Fair 101

The College of Ag Career fairs are some of the greatest opportunities to land an internship, or even a full-time position. As a Senior graduating this May, I’ve had the chance to be on both sides of the table. I think I’d prefer being a recruiter, however being a student seeking opportunity first was necessary for a start! Here are a few tips from a recruiter perspective that could help you succeed at your next career fair!

  1. Make sure you bring several copies of your resumes! Recruiters use these so we remember who you are and what you’re looking for.
  2. When you approach the table, have your elevator speech prepared. Sometimes we will start the conversation, but sometimes it’s up to you! Keeping it conversational is important!
  3. Don’t be nervous. We love meeting new people and having good conversations!
  4. If the table has promo gear, TAKE SOME! Especially if we’ve just finished a great conversation.
  5. Most of all, remember that companies come to campus to meet you. We are ready to talk about our opportunities and how they could work for you!
