HIRE: Helping Individuals Reach Excellence 

A mentorship program designed to connect professionals in Animal Sciences with undergraduate students, fostering career growth, networking, and industry insights. Participants gain direct access to experienced mentors in their prospective fields, receiving guidance, support, and valuable connections for their future careers. 
** This program is designed to foster mentorship and professional growth but does not guarantee employment or internships.** 

Mentee (Student) Requirements

  • Open to undergraduate students of any grade level
  • Must be an Animal Sciences major in any concentration
  • Required to meet with their assigned mentor at least once per month, with scheduling determined between mentor and mentee
  • Must be able to complete one academic year (September to April) of mentoring   
  • Discussions can cover any topic, with a focus on career development, professional growth and industry insights

Mentor Requirements

  • Must have at least one year of experience in the workforce or at least one year of experience in a post-secondary education program (e.g., veterinary school, graduate school)
  • Currently employed in an animal sciences-related profession or currently pursuing a post-secondary degree in an animal science-related field
  • Committed to meeting with their mentee at least once per month at a mutually agreed-upon time 
  • Open to discussing a variety of topics, with an emphasis on career development, professional growth, and industry insights
  • Passionate about mentoring and supporting the development of the next generation of animal science professionals
  • Willingness to act as a mentor for one academic year (September to April)
