2025 Winter Test: 43-day Summary
W25-2
1/8/26
Attached you’ll find an updated performance report.
Bulls were weighed on December 23 for the 28-day weight; however, we were having issues with the scale that day. It would not regularly go back to zero or it would take a noticeably greater amount of time to return to zero. For some reason the scale wanted to go to -26 or positive 26 that day and then we would zero it to get it back to zero. Weights were significantly below the projected target that day; however, we weighed all bulls. Dr. Burcham checked several that day and all but a couple of bulls had normal lung sounds with no fever.
I spoke with the tech service team for the scale and checked everything that they suggested and all checked out with the scale head and scale box.
I did pull the grates off the floor of the chute and cleaned them well and allowed them to dry. There was a noticeable amount of build up in these, roughly 60 lbs.
In terms of feeding, we did nothing crazy. We stayed the course and maintained target dry matter intake based on projected weights.
On Monday (1/5/2026), we checked the scale with our 1,080 lbs of check weights (tractor weights) and the scale was right on.
The plan from Dec. 23 was to re-weigh bulls two weeks from then, which we did yesterday, hence the reason the report says 43-day update. Bulls were also poured for lice yesterday.
Weights yesterday looked much better as the report shows.
Thanks,
Nick
