Sarah Stanhope

Sarah Stanhope

Biochemistry Department
Graduate student
Sarah Stanhope received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Salem State University in 2020. She joined Purdue's Biochemistry Ph.D. program in 2020 and has been working in the Weake lab since March 2021. Sarah's research focuses on using proteomic, enzymology, and molecular biology approaches to profile the redox proteome of the Drosophila eye, and how this impacts one carbon metabolism. Sarah has received Bird Stair Research Fellowship awards in 2020 and 2022, an NIH T32 training fellowship in Drug Discovery and Design in 2021, and a NIH F31 fellowship in 2024. Sarah's publications are available through ORCID.
Sarah McGovern

Sarah McGovern

Biochemistry Department
Graduate student
Sarah McGovern received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Mandarin Chinese Language from Michigan State University in 2018. She joined Purdue’s biochemistry PhD program in 2018 and has been working in the Weake lab since August 2021. Sarah’s research focuses on using -omics and molecular biology approaches to profile changes in the circadian rhythm during aging in photoreceptors. Sarah has received an honorable mention for her NSF Graduate Research Fellowship proposal in 2020 and a Bird Stair Research Fellowship award in 2019. Sarah's publications are available through Google Scholar and ORCID.
Gaoya (Grace) Meng

Gaoya (Grace) Meng

Biochemistry Department
Graduate student

Gaoya (Grace) Meng received a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Zhejiang University in 2020. Grace joined Purdue’s biochemistry PhD program in 2021 and has been working in the Weake lab since March 2022. Grace’s research focuses on understanding how changes in histone methylation affect the expression of circadian clock genes in the Drosophila eye.

Seth Lammert

Seth Lammert

Department of Biochemistry
Graduate student
Seth Lammert received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Indianapolis in 2022. He joined Purdue’s biochemistry Ph.D. program in 2022 and has been working in the Weake lab since March 2023. Seth’s research focuses on how changes in Drosophila methionine metabolism impact histone methylation in the aging eye. Seth's publications are available through ORCID.
Makayla Marlin

Makayla Marlin

Department of Biochemistry
Graduate student

Makayla Marlin received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Purdue University in 2023. She joined the Weake lab as an undergraduate student in 2021 before beginning graduate studies in Biochemistry in 2023. Makayla is studying the epigenetic changes that occur during aging within the eyes of aging flies, and also has an interest in using Drosophila to study mechanisms associated with Alzheimer's disease. Makayla’s publications are available through ORCID.

Leah Pierce

Leah Pierce

Department of Biochemistry
Graduate student

Leah Pierce received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Grand Valley State University in 2023. Leah joined the Purdue University Life Science Interdisciplinary (PULSe) program in 2023 and joined the Weake lab in April 2024. Leah’s research focuses on understanding how redox signaling impacts the phototransduction pathway in Drosophila photoreceptors.

Doris Kemler

Doris Kemler

Department of Biochemistry
Senior Research Technician

Doris Kemler grew up in Switzerland and moved to the United States because of herhusband’s work, joining the Purdue family 20 years ago. She recently joined the group of Dr. Vikki Weake in August 2023, after having worked in different labs at Purdue before. Doris brings expertise in Drosophila work to the lab and provides assistance with large-scale Drosophila genomic experiments. In her free time, Doris loves to make concrete jewelry and acrylic fluid art.

Anik Paul

Anik Paul

Biochemistry Department
Graduate student

In memory of Anik Paul who was a member of our group from 2021 - 2023. Anik received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2014 and Master of Science in 2015 in same major from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. After 6 months working as a research officer in International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) he joined as lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka in 2016. Then he moved to Purdue University in the fall of 2021 for a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and joined Dr. Weake's lab in March 2022.
