Rob Eddy joined the Department of HLA in January 1998 as Plant Growth Facilities Manager of the greenhouse and growth chamber facility brought on-line in March of that year. Rob has a B.S. in Horticulture Business Management and a M.S. in Horticulture, both from Purdue. His work experience includes four years providing greenhouse training for individuals with chronic mental illness. From 1994-98, he managed the research greenhouses at DowAgrosciences where his research emphasis was simulating outdoor environments using computerized greenhouse and growth chambers. His duties at Purdue include programming the computers that control the climates of the greenhouses; managing a team of professional and student workers; creating environments for innovative teaching and research; as well as keeping the greenhouse supplied and maintained. He also does research on optimizing growth of research crops such as Arabidopsis, maize and rice. He has developed over 30 reports from this work, available from the e-docs site of Purdue Libraries, that have accumulated hundreds of downloads from researchers around the world. His personal mission is to make the Purdue HLA facility a model for other research plant science institutions globally.
