Chuck Dietzen (BS ’83, animal sciences), pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist and co-founder of Timmy Global Health, received the 2022 Kiwanis International World Service Medal. The award recognizes Timmy Global Health’s dedication to improving the lives of children for 25 years. Founded to empower communities to address health disparities in a sustainable way, the organization has care sites in four countries across Latin America and Africa and has served more than 100,000 patients through medical service trips and local follow-up care, facilitating meaningful cultural exchange along the way.
Heather Hill (BS ’99, animal sciences), was elected president of the National Pork Board (NPB) for 2022-2023. NPB’s directors represent 60,000 U.S. pig farmers who pay into the Pork Checkoff, which funds research, promotion and education efforts to benefit the industry. Hill is co-owner of Hill Farms in Greenfield, Indiana, a 600-sow farrow-to-finish operation, with her husband Marc and his parents. She is a former NPB board vice president and treasurer and also former president of the Indiana Pork Board.
Shaneka Lawson (PhD ’11, forestry and natural resources), USDA Forest Service research plant physiologist and adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, won the U.S. Forest Service Cultural Diversity Award. It recognizes accomplishments that engage diverse abilities, skills, backgrounds and cultures, and promote inclusion and cultural transformation. Lawson initiated an immersive summer program in natural resources for underrepresented students and a virtual summer camp where students learn about careers in natural resources and the historical representation of women and minorities in agriculture.
