Current Programs in Research and Extension

  • Management of Fusarium wilt of watermelon with fungicides and resistant varieties. Additional work is being conducted on understanding the survival and spread of Fusarium oxysporum fsp. niveum in the greenhouse.
  • Fungicide resistance. This program is new and is in response to grower observations of fungicide resistance in Didymella bryoniae.
  • Management of mature watermelon vine decline. Current research emphasizes root health and the use of cover crops.
