Alex Mueth

Alex Mueth is a Master’s student under the advisement of Dr. Bryan Young. He grew up in Breese, IL, and obtained a B.S. in Crop, Soil, and Environmental Management, and a minor in Plant Biology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2021. His research focuses on variable rate applications of soil residual herbicides for improved weed control and reduced crop injury. His research objectives include:

  • Quantify the influence of variable rate applications of soil residual herbicides in corn and soybean production in terms of crop injury, weed control, and crop yield
  • Quantify the influence of soil weed seedbank abundance on the efficacy of soil residual herbicides applied in variable rate applications
  • Quantify the herbicide concentrations available for plant uptake in the soil solution with the use of variable rate applications.
