Virginia Akins
Virginia earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri in 2025. She joined the Mydy lab in 2025, and is pioneering our in planta work.
Sara Walis
Sara earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with Honors from Illinois State University in 2025 and joined the Mydy lab in 2026. She was recently awarded a NIH T32 Molecular Biophysics Fellowship at Purdue in 2026 as well.
Elysia Uggen
Elly joined Purdue in 2023, and the Mydy lab in Dec. 2025. She is in the Graduate Certificate Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology beginning in fall 2026.
Verasha Pomart
Vera joined the Mydy lab in Jan. 2026 and recently pursued research in our lab under Purdue SCARF.
Dr. Lisa Mydy
Dr. Mydy earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry magna cum laude in 2010, and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee degree in 2016 with Dr. Nicholas Silvaggi. After a postdoc with Dr. Andy Gulick at the University at Buffalo-SUNY, Dr. Mydy worked in industry as a Senior Scientist at Abbott Laboratories in Illinois. She joined Dr. Roland Kersten at the University of Michigan as a postdoc, co-mentored with Dr. Janet Smith, to combine her passions of protein structure and function with plant natural product biosynthesis in 2020. Dr. Mydy began her independent lab in the Department of Biochemistry at Purdue in 2025. She is a mentor in Purdue’s NIH T32 Molecular Biophysics Training Program and member of the Purdue Center for Plant Biology. Dr. Mydy’s publications are available through Google Scholar.
