This video explains the importance of getting kids active and accessing the outdoors. The Nature of Teaching workshops and online certificates provide K-5 teachers with lesson plans that incorporate health and wellness into standards-based curriculum. This allows for teachers to meet the requirements set for by the state and federal government while keeping kids active and healthy.

This unit provides introductory lesson plans that allow students to explore nature and understand the health benefits of being outside. Lesson One introduces the term habitat and explains to the students that habitat is made up of four components that animals need to survive and reproduce. This curriculum titled "Trees of the Midwest" has three lessons and will teach students all about trees, including the life cycle of a tree, the function of different parts of a tree, and the use for and value of different wood products.
