Dr. Wenjing Guan summarized watermelon fertilization research conducted at SWPAC over the past few years and shared her thoughts on nitrogen fertilizer application for watermelon production in southern Indiana. Click here to learn more.

February 26, 2025

A recent study from Dr. Ian Kaplan’s lab found that using broad-spectrum insecticides to control cucumber beetles is inadvertently triggering spider mite outbreaks in watermelon fields. The study also discovered that spider mites do not appear to use rye as a pathway to enter watermelon crops. You can find more details in the full article. Click for more information.

Grower Advisory Board (Nov. 1, 2024)

A Grower Advisory Board meeting will be held on November 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Southwest Purdue Agriculture Center. Purdue Extension specialists will be present to meet with growers, discuss production challenges, share current research activities, and outline future plans. The research team is eager to gather input from growers to help guide our efforts. We are still looking to fill additional seats on the advisory board.
