Fellowship Part 1: Foundations for Leadership

INSTITUTE ORIENTATION AND WEEKLY OVERVIEW

Description: Welcome to the program through institute staff introductions, giving an overview of the agenda, and review responsibilities in the contract. Some brief introductions of the fellows will be shared.

Description: Discuss the Common Leadership Curriculum and the Strengths-based approach to leadership.

Activity: Purdue Student Interaction
Description: Connect with Purdue University undergraduate students in breakout rooms to discuss academics, student life, entertainment and customs.

TRACK FOUNDATION DISCUSSION FORUM

Description: This session will provide an opportunity for the Fellows to reflect upon their work in the Business Track Foundation sessions. The Purdue Institute staff will facilitate this session, and solicit views about the main takeaways from the sessions and engage their colleagues in a discussion about how their learnings might be applied in their endeavors.

Event: Launch Fishers Networking Event
Description: Launch Fishers is a space for entrepreneurs, creatives, and innovators to flex their entrepreneurial spirit. This community of entrepreneurs will join in a networking event through breakout rooms to discuss ideas, strategies and successes.

Activity: Educational Moment at Retirement Community
Description: A local retirement community, Westminster Village, eagerly desires to learn about you and your community. The retirees will ask questions to be educated about Africa. Fellows will have the opportunity to ask questions of the residents living in Westminster Village as well.

Session Title: Leading with a Powerful Question
Description: In this session, Fellows will learn how to ask questions that are appreciative and generative. This is an important leadership skill that helps others envision a future they can see and feel. These kinds of powerful questions can help assure the success of collaborative efforts.

Activity: Travel around Indiana with Purdue Pete
Description: A trivia game will be played as we virtually travel around Indiana visiting attractions, events, and locations. Short videos will highlight the Indiana location followed by a question to test knowledge and compete against teams. An experienced professional on the attractions within Indiana will join the conversation to share more insight and answer questions.

Session Title: Cognitive Diversity: The Hidden Superpower of Effective Teams
Description: In this session, Fellows will learn how they optimally contribute to growth, innovation, and transformation and how cognitively-diverse teams are more likely to successfully address complex challenges. As part of this session, Fellows will complete an online assessment called the AEM-Cube.

FINAL REFLECTION SESSION

Description: The Fellows will have an opportunity to provide feedback to Purdue Institute staff on the strengths and weaknesses of the Leadership Institute. The session will be facilitated by the Academic Director, and Fellows' views will be noted and discussed. The Fellows' views will contribute towards the overall evaluation of the Leadership Institute and recommendation for both Purdue and IREX to consider in future Institutes.
