Environmental Educator/Recycling Solid Waste Specialist

Location: 20 North 3rd Street, Lafayette, IN 47901
Salary: $2,165.58 Biweekly
Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, M-F; occasional weekends

Role Overview:
This position serves both as an Environmental Educator for the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation (WREC) and as a Recycling Solid Waste Specialist for the Tippecanoe County Solid Waste District (TCSWD). Responsibilities include developing and implementing environmental education programs, ensuring compliance with environmental mandates, and managing recycling and hazardous waste disposal programs.


Key Responsibilities:
Educate and engage the public on proper disposal and recycling practices.
Coordinate with hazardous waste disposal entities and manage waste collection events.
Develop and manage grants, and create educational campaigns on conservation and recycling.
Lead public speaking engagements, workshops, and community events.
Participate in the Greater Lafayette Climate Action Plan Joint Leadership Committee.

 

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
Strong public communication skills and experience in community engagement.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media, and general office software.
Valid Indiana driver's license with a safe driving record.

 

Work Environment:
Office and field settings; requires travel and occasional extended hours.
Involves physical activities such as lifting, walking, and managing outdoor equipment.
