Recent Graduate or Near-Term Graduation - Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist/Life Scientist

This position is in Region 5, Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division, Water Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Branch, Water Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Section 1. You must physically report to the stated duty station. The EPA offers work-from-home and schedule flexibilities as described in the Benefits section.

Eligibility
Open to Recent Graduates: Individuals who graduated within the last 2 years (6 years for Veterans) from an accredited institution.
Clarification: Recent graduates who completed their degree within the past 2 years or current students who will graduate within 9 months of the announcement closing date. Veterans with a service obligation may apply up to 6 years after graduation.

Duties
Conduct inspections and investigations of regulated facilities.
Provide technical assistance on analytical methods and sampling techniques.
Participate in enforcement activities and recommend actions based on inspection findings.
Assist well-established facilities with regulatory compliance during inspections and investigations.
Support regional personnel, other agencies, industry representatives, and the public on EPA regulations.

Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen.

Submit transcripts/course listings.
Position has education requirements (see Qualifications/Education section).
Lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Background investigation required.
Trial period for the Recent Graduates program.
Participate in the medical monitoring program.
Complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure form within 30 days of employment.
Obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Completion of coursework required if still studying.

Qualifications
GS-07 level: 1 year of experience equivalent to GS-05 or graduate education.
GS-09 level: 1 year of experience equivalent to GS-07 or master’s degree.
Combination of education and experience also qualifies.

Skills Needed
Conducting field inspections and gathering evidence.
Written and oral communication.
Providing technical assistance for field sampling, inspections, and monitoring.
Knowledge of EPA laws, regulations, and enforcement practices.

Education
Life Scientist: Bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related fields.
Environmental Engineer: Professional engineering degree or combination of education and technical experience.
Physical Scientist: Bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics with 24 semester hours in related engineering science.
