DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
Location: Norfolk, CT
Position Type: Part Time (20 hrs/week)
Compensation: $26 per hour
The 6,300-acre Great Mountain Forest (GMF) is a nonprofit dedicated to forest management that achieves resilience, fights climate change, enhances biodiversity, supports research, empowers education, and demonstrates sustainable uses that benefit communities. We are on a mission to catalyze regional forest management that achieves these goals.
Great Mountain Forest seeks a well-organized, digitally savvy, and mission-aligned Engagement Associate to help grow our fundraising capacity, strengthen communications, and track the impact of our work. This part-time position supports donor relations, communications coordination, basic data management, and light administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate is a clear communicator, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple projects with minimal oversight. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to support a mission-driven organization with a wide range of public-facing programs.
Key Responsibilities
Development (~7 hrs/wk)
- Help plan and distribute mail and digital fundraising campaigns
- Maintain and clean donor and community databases
- Support donor acknowledgments and grant tracking
- Ensure nonprofit profiles are accurate
- Assist in identifying and tracking grant opportunities
Communications Coordination (~7 hrs/wk)
- Coordinate with newsletter and social media consultants
- Assist with email, web, social media, print, and advertising content
- Update website and create event posts and registration forms
- Track program participation and public engagement metrics
- Answer public inquiries and direct community members to staff
Program Data & Impact (~4 hrs/wk)
- Collect and summarize data on participation, feedback, and outcomes
- Maintain internal dashboards and update key performance indicators
- Contribute to internal and external reporting on program results
Office Support (~2 hrs/wk)
- Digitize, organize, and file documents
- Help maintain internal calendars
Basic Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, communications, or nonprofit support
- Excellent organizational, writing, and editing skills
- Comfort with tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft Excel, and CRM systems
- Experience juggling multiple projects and deadlines independently
- Alignment with the mission of Great Mountain Forest and appreciation for forest conservation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Bloomerang, Constant Contact, WordPress, or Canva
- Skill in visual communications or event photography
- Familiarity with basic data collection and analysis for program evaluation
- Understanding of foundations, government grants, and nonprofit operations
- Prior experience supporting events or working with external contractors
