GIS Intern
Location: West Lafayette, IN
Compensation: $15/hr; 40 hours/week
Position Dates: Must commit to a minimum of 9 weeks. Up to 12 paid weeks are available. Internship
period runs from May 18, 2026, to August 14, 2026.
Primary Function of Position: To serve in a support role within the service and research-based
environment at the Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC).
Duties & Responsibilities: This position is designed to expose the student intern to the range of GIS and
climate service needs of the MRCC. The intern will assist MRCC climate scientists and GIS specialists with
the development and modification of tools that present historical climate information in a spatial
framework. They will apply their knowledge of GIS, computational skills, and physical science principles
to support the MRCC’s goals of presenting climate information in a useful and usable manner. Additional
duties may include performing quality control on historical climate data and filling climate data requests.
Eligibility: This position is open to anyone currently enrolled as a sophomore or above in a physical
science program. Graduating seniors are eligible only if they have been accepted to a graduate degree
program, and they will begin that program no later than Fall 2026.
