Park Allies Naturalist Lead Position


Term: 450-1700 hours (3-10 months) between September 2024 – August 2025
Supervision: Parks Naturalist, Grant Administrator

Position Overview
Join the Park Allies AmeriCorps program to support and develop nature-based programming and park conservation in West Lafayette. Engage visitors of all ages in environmental education and outdoor recreation. Responsibilities include leading nature programs, conducting educational workshops, and assisting with park maintenance. This role provides experience in horticulture, conservation, and public service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support environmental stewardship and park development
  • Plan and lead nature walks, hikes, and educational programs
  • Maintain park trails, habitats, and facilities
  • Participate in conservation projects like habitat restoration and native plantings
  • Cultivate community relationships and volunteer recruitment
  • Ensure safety and well-being of participants during programs
Qualifications
  • Experience in youth education, teaching, or environmental education preferred
  • Leadership experience in volunteer or service-based organizations
  • Strong communication, time-management, and public speaking skills
  • At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Term Schedule
  • 450-1700 hours between September 2024 – August 2025. Monday-Friday with some evenings and weekends.

  • Physically demanding role, requiring lifting up to 50 pounds and working in various outdoor conditions.
