Park Allies Nature Camp Naturalist (AmeriCorps)


Term: 450 hours (May–August 2025)
Reports to: Park Naturalist & Grant Administrator (AmeriCorps Director)

Position Overview
The Park Allies Nature Camp Naturalist supports the Lilly Nature Camp and park conservation efforts. This role engages children in environmental education and outdoor recreation, ensuring their safety, development, and skill-building. Members gain hands-on experience in conservation, environmental education, interpretation, and resource management while fostering community connections to nature.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in environmental stewardship and park development.
  • Plan and lead nature-based camp activities, including hikes and educational programs.
  • Ensure camper safety, track dietary restrictions, and communicate with parents.
  • Maintain program records and enforce camp safety protocols.
  • Participate in conservation tasks like planting, invasive species removal, and trail maintenance.
  • Represent the Parks & Recreation department and AmeriCorps professionally.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in youth engagement, teaching, or environmental education preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be 18+, a U.S. citizen/permanent resident, and able to pass background checks.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and conflict resolution skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.

Service Details:
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with some evenings and weekends.
Compensation: Up to $6,000 stipend + up to $1,956.35 AmeriCorps Segal Education Award (upon completion).
Environment: Outdoor setting in varying weather conditions; physical labor required.
