Watershed Management Research & Outreach Undergraduate Internship


Program Overview:
The Watershed Management Research and Outreach Undergraduate Internship offers hands-on experience in water resource management, guided by faculty mentors at seven institutions across the North Central U.S. It covers areas such as soil health, agriculture, water quality, climate, and more. Interns gain insights into real-world challenges and diverse career paths in watershed management.


Internship Locations & Focus Areas:
  • University of Illinois: Agricultural conservation and nutrient reduction (Champaign/Galesburg, IL)
  • Iowa State University: Water quality education and event planning (Ames, IA)
  • University of Nebraska: Landowner education on nutrient and soil health (Lincoln, NE)
  • University of Missouri: Water sampling and limnology (Columbia, MO)
  • North Dakota State University: Soil health, grazing systems, and stream management (Fargo, ND)
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison: Watershed education, K-12 literacy, urban agriculture (Milwaukee, WI)
Program Benefits:

Eligibility:
  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are current undergraduates with at least one year of coursework completed and one semester remaining post-internship.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required in some locations.
