"While at Purdue, I contributed to the body of knowledge on diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM research, teaching, and learning. I am also proud of being a Mentor Scholar of the Year awardee. My work as a scholar mentor for several STEM initiatives designed to increase the pipeline of women and underrepresented students in STEM allowed me to directly impact students' lives from primary to post-secondary levels."

"What makes me excited about the future is knowing 'What's to come is better than what's been,' which really goes back to something I heard my great-grandmother remind me of so much growing up: Every round goes higher and higher! I am excited for the future because I know there is still much to be learned and much to be done to make our communities and our world better places for all people. Now is the time for me to put my skills and everything that has been poured into me to good use!"

"Being at Purdue has allowed me multiple opportunities to give back to students who look like me. I've been able to pour into the lives of children and undergraduate and graduate students. Making an impact in their lives has been my proudest moment as a Boilermaker!"

Andrés Zabala-Perilla
Ph.D., Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication
"During these three last years at Purdue, I was able to recognize different ways to research Colombian rural youth issues and apply the knowledge I gained with my professors, mentors, and classmates. This experience provided me with different perspectives and tools for my professional development. I feel excited about applying the Ph.D. knowledge in the Latin American context. I think it will be a great challenge to use that knowledge to support Colombian rural development."
