The Center for Food Demand Analysis and Sustainability (CFDAS) incorporates the USDA’s Six-item Short Form Food Security Module into our Consumer Food Insights survey to measure food insecurity among American adults.
CFDAS has been estimating food insecurity every month since January 2022, allowing us to track trends over time and providing a tool for quickly detecting the impact of current events on American households.
Monthly data shows a peak in mid-2023, followed by a steady decline through early 2024. However, rates began rising again in mid-2025. The 3-month moving average in September 2025 was 13.7%.
