Fertilizer Eggs?!

Occasionally, we get frantic calls from folks wondering what creature laid these eggs in the soil of their houseplants! Not to worry – these beneficial eggs will hatch into fertilizer!
The fertilizer product is coated to allow slow release of the nutrients into the soil. There are numerous brands of such slow-release fertilizers, so the exact size and color may vary, but they are often somewhat of a transparent, pale yellow about 1/8th inch or so in diameter. Plant producers will either blend the fertilizer pellets into the potting mix or in some cases, the pellets may be applied to surface of the soil.
