Agriculture/Natural Resources Technician

Job description for the Harrison Soil and Water Conservation District:

Position Overview:

• Full-time role promoting conservation, soil health, and water quality among farmers and landowners.
• Reports to the District Administrator and Board of Supervisors.
• Standard hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, with some evenings/weekends as needed.
• Benefits include vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, and OPERS retirement.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree in agriculture/natural resources or related experience.
• Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to pass background, physical, and drug checks.
• Able to work outdoors in various conditions.

Key Duties:

• Educate and assist landowners with conservation practices and nutrient management.
• Plan and conduct educational events, tours, and workshops.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for various agencies.
• Operate and maintain district equipment; assist with rental equipment.
• Build relationships with landowners and partner agencies.
• Support EEO and Civil Rights policies.

Program Responsibilities:

• Promote best management practices for soil and water.
• Conduct site visits, offer conservation advice, and follow up with participants.
• Assist with pollution abatement, water quality, and CAUV programs.
• Lead Voluntary Nutrient Management Plan reviews.

Supervision & Training:

• Supervised by the District Administrator; work reviewed annually.
• Ongoing training provided through various agencies.

Other:

• Must perform all duties safely and professionally.
• Additional tasks as assigned.
