Wellness Center Camp Counselor
Position Level: Temporary
Reports to: Youth Development Coordinator
Position Summary
The Wellness Center Camp Counselor plans and leads engaging activities and programs for children attending camp. This position is responsible for creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment while supporting campers’ development and well-being.
Essential Job Functions
- Plan, prepare, and lead camp activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts, and special events.
- Monitor camper safety, behavior, attendance, and whereabouts at all times.
- Track and appropriately manage camper dietary restrictions, allergies, and snacks/meals.
- Communicate with parents regarding camper experiences and concerns.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and daily documentation.
- Keep program areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all safety and emergency procedures, including pool/water safety when applicable.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support camp operations.
- Represent the organization professionally and follow all organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education or experience in camp programs, youth development, recreation, childcare, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children and the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and coworkers.
- Strong teamwork, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability to administer medication according to established guidelines.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
Work Schedule
Camp runs May 26–August 7, 2026, Monday–Friday. Orientation and training begin April 27, 2026, with mandatory staff training on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Shifts may range from 7:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and will be assigned by the Youth Development Coordinator or Assistant Youth Development Coordinator. Schedule flexibility is required.
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Stand, sit, walk, and run for extended periods.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Swim with participants on a weekly basis.
- Communicate in person, electronically, and by telephone.
- Follow all required health and safety procedures.
Required Training
- Organizational orientation and compliance training.
- Child abuse and neglect recognition and reporting.
- Emergency and safety procedures.
