Flood Mitigation Program Management Intern


The Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) is seeking a full-time intern (up to 1,000 hours) to support its Flood Mitigation Program in Libertyville, IL. The position is primarily office-based with occasional field visits and offers approximately 40 hours per week for up to 25 weeks at $18/hour.

Responsibilities include supporting voluntary floodplain buyout projects through project coordination, recordkeeping, cost tracking, communication with homeowners and municipal partners, bid and demolition documentation, property transfer activities, budgeting, payment processing, and other administrative tasks.

Candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to work in both office and field settings. Applicants should be graduates of a two- or four-year program in environmental science, geography, urban planning, hazard/disaster mitigation, or a related field. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS is preferred but not required. A valid driver's license is required.

The start date is flexible, academic credit may be available, and employment is contingent upon completing required pre-employment screenings.
