Chart showing consumers' agreement or disagreement with statement about easy access to healthy foods, by diet quality classification.

Data from the CFDAS May 2025 Consumer Food Insights Survey indicates that access to healthy food does not guarantee improved diets. Respondents whose estimated diet quality score was “unhealthy” were more likely to disagree with the statement that “it is easy to find healthy foods where I live,” compared to those with healthy diets. Yet, 73% with unhealthy diets agreed with the statement.

The message? Improving diet quality may require more than just better access – habits, preferences and cost are all factors that shape the foods we eat.
