Sustainable Food and Farming Systems Courses
The College of Agriculture offers several courses for undergraduate students to engage in hands-on learning at the Purdue Student Farm.
The Small Farms Experience courses (SFS 210 and SFS 211) are conducted at the Student Farm. Enrolled students gain hands-on practical experience in all aspects of vegetable and herb production. They learn about seeding, transplant production, bed preparation, planting, irrigating, weeding, harvesting, and produce sales. The class also visits several other successful small farm operations around Indiana and reads books exploring issues in our American food system.
A list of courses offered is available in the Course Catalog.
If you want to take any of these courses or learn more about the new Sustainable Food and Farming Systems major, please contact the course advisor, Dr. Steve Hallett.
