This literature review summarizes current knowledge on the roles of women and youth in food safety in smallholder poultry production in Kenya. Because of their greater involvement in handling poultry, women and youth may have a higher risk of exposure to foodborne pathogens, and research and outreach to foster their empowerment to ensure food safety could reduce foodborne illness in Kenya.
